BE HERE. GET THERE. EVERY DAY IN SCHOOL MATTERS.
Every day in school matters.
School attendance—even at a young age—can be a key predictor of whether a student succeeds and graduates ready for college and a career.
While good attendance is critical to academic success, chronic absenteeism (missing 18 or more days) puts students at risk of academic failure and
eventually dropping out.
Because attendance is so important, Seattle Public Schools has set a BIG goal to reduce the number of students at-risk for chronic absenteeism: 80% of
students will have fewer than 10 absences in this school year. In addition, in 2011, the school board updated the district policy and family vacation is an unexcused absence.
We all have to do more to ensure our students are motivated to attend school every day. Following up on a successful first year, the Seattle Mayor’s Office is partnering with Seattle Public Schools to support attendance with the Be
Here Get There campaign again for the second year.
The Be Here Get There Attendance Campaign aims to:
Educate students, families and the community about the shared responsibility to get students to school on a daily basis;
Help make schools accessible and engaging to students; Reward positive attendance behavior.
The Be Here Get There campaign strives to raise awareness that "Every day in school matters". For the second year, we have partnered with organizations to provide incentive prizes to promote student achievement and attendance as well as recognize classrooms and schools that have made impressive efforts to improve attendance rates.
