Hello Explorers!
We are very excited to report, this news post is going out to at least 40 new families that the district has confirmed are enrolled for next year!  Because we will have as many new families starting next year as we will have seasoned vets, the PTSA felt is was important to have a few meet-and-greet events so everyone can start to recognize new faces and say hello to old friends. (There will also be QAE logo gear available for purchase--FUN!)
The first one will be held on Tuesday, July 12th from 4-6pm at Rodgers Park (Raye St. and 1st Ave. W).  Families should feel free to come if they can, but this is a very informal event, so no one should feel pressure to attend.  There will be plenty of socials in the future if this one is crowding your calendar! So keep on eye on the Daily News for updated events!  If you know anyone who has a child enrolled for next year that didn't receive this email, please forward it on to them and encourage them to go onto the QAE website and sign up for the newsletter. If you are receiving this in error, just scroll down to the bottom of this message and click on "Update Your Subscription Profile".  Click on "Unsubscribe".

If you have any questions, email the QAE PTSA Community Activities Chair, Kristin Teske,  at mailto:teskes@comcast.net

Hope to see you on the 12th!
Your Queen Anne Elementary PTSA

We'd love to have some of these!
We understand many of you may want to explore the new school grounds, but have found they are blocked off until construction is completely finished.  To curb that zeal, try going to the far east end of the building.  Go up the stairs off Bigelow Ave. N and you'll find the QAE Community Garden.  Volunteers have been working diligently, and we are very excited about how it is coming along.  Eventually it will be part of our student's science and culinary curriculum. If you'd like to help with the garden by either getting your hands dirty with planting and weeding, or working on curriculum ideas, grant writing, plant procurement or a variety of other fields, please contact Elizabeth Kruse mailto:em.kruse@hotmail.com

We hope you like what we've done!

Elizabeth Kruse and I (and our boys) spent part of the day on Saturday planting tomatoes at the QAE community garden.  When you've gotten your hands dirty, then patiently tended and cared for your plantings, there is nothing like the reward you feel when that first flower blooms, or that first vegetable is harvested!  It is the physical manifestation of the phrase, "hard work pays off."  I'm so excited for our kids to experience it first hand.
Everything looks SO great, and we are very excited about how it is coming together. Although it still has a few empty beds, overgrown beds too and needs a good weeding, we aren't worried, because this coming Friday, a Windermere crew is coming to the rescue! Thanks to Windermere agent, and QAE kindergarten parent, Holley Ring, Windermere has adopted our garden for their annual community project! They will be tackling many of our remaining projects, including tearing down a improper compost shed, putting up a new composter, clearing away the rest of the unwanted, overgrown remains of the old garden, and doing some general clean up.

If you would like to come join the work crew, we would love to have you!  One can never have enough willing hands in a garden! The Windermere team will start around 9 AM and be there for several hours.  Please come when you can. (The garden is on the East side of the new QAE school grounds)
Thanks to Windermere Reality and all our hardworking volunteers!

Hope to see you Friday,
Kristin Teske
